The short answer is- they were failing too often and we couldn't keep up service to support at the level we are accustomed.
The longer answer includes that newer print technology ecological and economical. Also, centralized service is easier to support. Finally, the cost to print was losing changed to a student programming budget. So we increased your semester allotment, decreased the cost per print and brought new technology.
